Funds for reforms of Armenia’s election law available - MP

08/09/2016

About a month ago, Mr Piotr Świtalski, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Armenia, said that the US $16 million intended for reforming Armenia’s election law were available, Naira Zohrabyan, Head of the Prosperous Armenia party’s parliamentary group, told Tert.am.

“He informed a government official of that. At the discussions in the 4+4+4 format, an agreement was signed, which, if implemented, is supposed to improve public confidence in the electoral system. The authorities stated that necessary reforms would be implemented provided the necessary funds were available,” Ms Zohrabyan said.

According to her, the Committee was to have started the relevant work long ago.

“The question is why the authorities, David Harutyunyan, are not launching reforms of the election law to say later that ‘it is too late.’ I am putting my question to all those who said reforms would be implemented provided the funds were available. And now the funds are available.”
