As we have informed, this morning the police used force and water cannons against the citizens to disperse a peaceful protest against the electricity price increase, 237 citizens were arrested and criminal cases were filed.

In this regard, Zham.am talked to the Armenian MP Vahe Hovhannisyan

-Mr. Hovhannisyan, how do you interpret the fact of the use of force against peaceful demonstrators, which was witnessed by the entire world?

Of course, it is reprehensible and very painful. The peaceful protesters are our citizens who came out to raise a social issue. At the same time, as a MP and as a citizen, I would like to stress the importance of one factor: the government and the political forces should be aware that the public tranquility problem cannot be solved using special measures and with the help of the police. Our most difficult social problems cannot be solved under the pressure of the police and breaking the reporters' cameras. The police forces cannot solve the total problem of injustice, which only increase the tension and stimulate the migration. In the conditions of the growing economic and social tensions we need political solutions, economic progress, and an effective mechanism providing internal solidarity. Today's any acute problems cannot be solved by the police. The solution of these issues are in the different dimension. One should think about this.
