Prosperous Armenia party henceforth opposition force – chairperson

The Prosperous Armenia party is from now on an opposition party, while it has not changed its position on constitutional amendments, the party’s newly elected Chairperson Naira Zohrabyan stated following the party’s special congress on Thursday.

The decision is the result of discussions by the political Council and with the Prosperous Armenia parliamentary faction. The party will develop a new strategy, without departing from its program.

“We have to draw our roadmap, make certain steps, and no one should expect us to make any hasty steps,” Ms Zohrabyan said.

With respect to the party’s position on constitutional reforms, Ms Zohrabyan stressed that the party has not changed it. She also refutes the reports that ex-leader Gagik Tsarukyan intends to leave Armenia’s parliament as well.

“No problem, I have presented explanations for Mr Tsarukyan’s absence to the Parliament speaker and he considered it excused absence,” she said.

As regards ex-FM Vartan Oskanian’s the resignation from the party, Ms Zohrabyan said that he handed in his resignation and will later make a statement.

Vardan Vardanyan has been elected chairman of the Prosperous Armenia party’s Political Council, and Tigran Urikhanyan remains the party’s spokesman.

The Prosperous Armenia party will regain its reputation soon, Ms Zohrabyan told Tert.am.
