Yesterday, the PAP Committee on Ethnic Minorities held a discussion on the violation of the right to education of Yezidi women. The joint report titled "The Violation of the Right to Education of Yezidi Women" was submitted during the discussion by the “Sinjar Yezidis National Union” NGO and the PAP Committee on Ethnic Minorities. The co-author of the report Zuzan Khuboyan introduced its observations on these issues, proposing measures to raise awareness for the fight against the violation of the right to education. According to Zarian Smoyan’s assessment, another co-author of the report, the fact that parents force Yezidi girls not to attend schools and to get married very young is a gross violation of human rights which affects a child's health, right to education and prospects for the future, adding that the state has a significant role in resolving the raised issues, which should develop mechanisms that will prohibit parents to violate their own children's right to education prescribed by law. According to Boris Murazi, the editor of the report and the Chairman of the Committee on Ethnic Minorities, in 15 Yezidi villages that they studied the majority of women did not even finish a school. "This is a serious issue and we will try to carry out necessary activities to improve the situation by a legislative arrangement as well, "said Boris Murazi, adding that the issue will be submitted to the NA PAP faction with a hope to find necessary legislative arrangements.
