According to UNESCO, the majority of the several thousand Armenian churches have been destroyed in the present-day territory of Turkey.

Opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairwoman and PAP National Assembly (NA) Faction Head Naira Zohrabyan, who is also a member of the Armenian NA delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), stated the aforementioned at Thursday’s PACE debates on the report with respect to culture and democracy issues.

Zohrabyan spoke about the systematic destruction of Armenian cultural trace in present-day Turkey.

She noted that after the genocide in 1915, Turkey began to consistently carry out cultural genocide, whose objective is the elimination of Armenian cultural heritage.

The PAP leader also showed pictures of the Armenian churches that are either destroyed or turned into barns in Turkey.
