10/21/2015

On October 21 the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Naira Zohrabyan met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to RA, Ambassador Piotr Switalski.

Mrs Zohrabyan has noted that the Ambassador has assumed his mission in the important phase for Armenia: the EU has approved the mandate of beginning negotiations over the new legal document with Armenia. By the Committee Chair’s assessment, in this phase the mission of the EU Embassy to RA becomes more crucial. Mrs Zohrabyan has expressed hope that the RA-EU negotiations will not have long-lasting procedure, as the political component of the new treaty can be considered negotiated: it will mainly reflect the political component of the RA-EU previous Association Agreement. Touching upon the economic component of the document, the Committee Chair has noted that it, of course, will not be as ambitious, as the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, but taking into consideration that the European Union implements 50 per cent of Armenia’s investments, and the EU together with Russia are the RA two big trade-economic partners, therefore, it can also have serious economic component.

Piotr Switalski also emphasized his appointment in such responsible phase, noting that he would do utmost in order Armenia could reach legal, but not imitation progress in the spheres recorded in the agreement.

The sides also discussed issues regarding the process of the RA Constitutional Reforms and of bilateral interest.
