Biography

NAIRA ZOHRABYAN

Born: 8 May 1965
Birthplace: Yerevan, Armenia

N. Zohrabyan finished Yerevan Secondary School № 21 with honours. She graduated from Yerevan State Institute of Fine Arts and Theatre, Department of Theatrology, with distinction as well.
N.Zohrabyan took a two-year course in international journalism. She did her international training at State Institute for Theatre Arts in Moscow, All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, as well as at Moscow’s leading theatres.
She is the author of numerous theatrical works published in local and foreign cultural periodicals.  
In 1992 she worked as a journalist in AR, ARAVOT, HAYOTS ASHKHARH, HAYQ periodicals. In 1999-2007 she worked as a political commentator for HAYKAKAN JHAMANAK daily. In 2007 she was the author and anchor of VERELK political TV show.  
In 2007-2012 she was elected Member of Parliament from Prosperous Armenia Party /BHK/ list through proportional representation. 
From 19 June 2007 to 08 June 2009 N. Zohrabyan was the Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.
From 16 June 2008 to 15 September 2009 she was a member of RA NA Ad-hoc Committee on the Events Occurred on 1-2 March 2008 in Yerevan and Their Reasons.
From 08 June 2009 to 31 May 2012 she was elected Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration.  

On 6 May 2012 she was re-elected MP through proportional representation from Prosperous Armenia Party list. On 31 May 2012 she was re-elected Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration and currently chairs it. 
On 31 May 2012 she was elected Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Parliamentary Faction.

On 5 March 2015 at the 8the Extraordinary Congress of the Prosperous Armenia Party she was elected Leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party /BHK/. 

N.Zohrabyan represents Armenia in several international parliamentary assemblies: she is a permanent member to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe /PACE/, a member to the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie. For many years she had been the Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on Political Affairs in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly within the Eastern Partnership.

Since 2010 N. Zohrabyan has been a Board Member of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. 

Naira Zohrabyan received “MP of the Year”, “Political Figure of the Year” titles for many times.

She has a daughter and a grandson.
